Costa Rica

It is important that you remember that Costa Rica is a tropical country surrounded by nature. We have two seasons: Dry (it rains less) and Rainy (well … you can imagine. Ha ha)

Meet-up is in rainy season, but it is in the transition stage towards the dry season, so we hope we have a very good wheater. Plase notice that wheater conditions rapilly changes, after traveling about 30 minutes the weather can get much hotter or much colder (not less than 10 degrees celsius in the mountains and up to 35 degrees celsius on the beaches)

In general terms it is a safe country, you can walk through the cities without any problem, but as anywhere in the world, being careful not to visibly expose your wallet or camera.

Our currency is the Colon: 570 colones equals one dollar. In most places they accept dollars (denominations below $ 50) and credit cards. You can pay absolutely EVERYTHING by card (this includes one dollar purchases)

If you are going to rent a car you should take into account most of the streets lacks street signs (there are no visible street names), so we strongly recommend use Waze.

To transfer from the Airport to the Hotel you can use an Airport Taxi. Airport Taxis are orange, safe and can charge about US $ 15 from the airport to the Hotel.

To leave the Hotel you can use normal Taxis or Uber service. Like in most countries, Uber is not legal but is cheaper. The official Taxis are Red, they have a yellow triangle on the front doors and by law they use Taximeter. Some Taxis can be paid by Credit Card (they have the Visa and MC symbol on the front glass) others only in cash.

What we do not recommend at all is to use Informal Taxis (called Pirate Taxis), they are usually vehicles that can no longer be used as Taxis and operate outside the law. They are characterized by being old and having a private vehicle license plate (White Background with Blue Letters). Take into account that the Uber vehicles, also have white plates with blue numbers.(unavailable attachment: Licence Plate)

In Costa Rica we use 120V voltage, Type A / B plugs

Cell phone
The following telephone companies operate in the country: Claro, Movistar and ICE. For Central Americans Claro has automatic roaming at no additional cost. If you wish you can buy a prepaid chip. With around $10 you can buy a plan with enough internet for your stay.

Prepago Kölbi

It will really be a pleasure to receive you in our little big country.
