Unplowed roads, what shall we do

Post by Gazoo4U
In Michigan, there are many public roads that don't get plowed in the Winter. I've run into a UR on one in Waterford (https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lo ... st=4096816).

But I know there are lots of these winter unmaintained roads in Northern Michigan. As an aside I've seen pictures where one entire carriageway of the no longer existing US-131 expressway north of Mancelona used to be that way.

What do we do about these ? Mark them private? Put months long restrictions on them? This would almost seems to be a Waze client issue which needs a too much snow button.

I live in an area in Northern Michigan (Lower Pennisula) where many of the roads are officially seasonal (not plowed in winter). Waze has suggested I travel on these impassable roads. I think that there should be a tool to mark such roads as seasonal and that Waze should not route over them during winter months.

While I don't live in the US we too here in Denmark has a lot of roads that isn't plowed during wintertime, both within the cities, but especially out in the countryside. I have yet to see one single GPS that actually accounts for that situation, ie that certain roads would be covered with so much snow to make them impassable. You either have to take the chance or simply let waze know that that road is not possible due to a restriction (snow buildup). At least that stops others from hopefully getting routed the same way for some time.

Considering our current toolset and the fact that anything we do is a workaround, and we cannot verify a lot of this without a lot of resources, I vote nothing.

I know this is an older thread, but I live in this area and for the most part this neighborhood is generally unplowed for extended periods of time. It must be close to last on the list for the road commission to plow.

Usually it is passable but being within a neighborhood I don't see why Waze would route you down it unless you were going to an address within the neighborhood.

They are NOT seasonal roads.
