Flint Bishop Airport routing to wrong spot

Post by JB15TM
There is an open UR where it appears the driver was being routed to a wrong location at Flint Bishop Airport. I used the live map to route the terminal and maybe you can see it here.

In any case, the routing takes you further down Bristol Rd (about 1/2 mile west of the terminal). The AM seems to be accurate and the place marker for the AM is right on the terminal building, so why wouldn't the routing go there?

I suppose an easy fix would be to add a PM for the Terminal Building, but that may confuse people (two location options) and if you chose the existing airport location it will still route to the wrong place.

I always believed that the place marker in a AM would be the spot for routing? Right?

Might be a Google result problem - The Google marker is typically in the middle of the airport. Try searching in the app various ways (including accepting the auto-complete suggestion and NOT accepting it) and checking the various providers.

Thanks. Yes, I think its a Google Issue. When I pull up a Google View, there are two markers. Most of the Waze routings will take you to the wrong spot - - probably airport offices.

Here's an interesting note... my original searches were done on Waze.com and every one routed to the wrong spot, except when I typed "Terminal FNT". BUT, when I use the iPhone app, I can enter "Bishop Airport", FNT, Flint Airport and all of them bring up Bishop Airport FNT as the main selection and the routing shows the terminal - - correctly.

This is very odd. Waiting to get more details from the UR reporter.

Here is a screen grab of the Google View. Showing the two locations.

The reporter stated he was directed farther down Bristol Rd - west and away from the terminal. However, since he was driving right by the terminal entrance, he realized there was an error.

Every routing attempt I make using my iPhone correctly takes me to the terminal - - this also is where the primary AM is marked. I don't have the destination in my faves so it's a new search.

I wonder if anyone using a different device (Android?) can test a routing? Just search for Bishop Airport or FNT and see what is suggested. Bishop International (FNT) always pops on the list and shows the proper routing to the terminal loop.

Thanks for any feedback!

Thanks for the suggestion. The marker in question is the routing marker for the AM in Google. Unfortunately, GMM won't let me move the routing marker. I submitted an edit request to Google so hopefully that will get it moved. One more advantage to WME that we can both set an area and place the routing marker within that area.

This may be overkill, but I added a PM in Waze at the terminal. Once Google moves the routing marker in their map I may delete this PM.

I can't get the result "Bishop International Airport (FNT)" to come up as a suggestion in Waze when I search on my iPhone. I hopped over into WME and noticed that "Bishop International Airport (FNT)" is the exact place name for the place in Waze. When I search for "Bishop International Airport" in Google Map Maker, this is the result:

http://s15.postimg.org/xb7jorbgr/FNT_GMM.jpg

I'm going to go out on a limb and surmise this:

- When you search for "Bishop International Airport", it returns the Google result immediately because it is a verbatim match to a Google place name. As you can see from the GMM result, the pin is in the wrong location and Waze will route you to the nearest segment to that pin, which is that little road there north of the pin location.
- When you search for "Bishop International Airport (FNT), it will return the Waze place name, because it is a fuzzy match for Google but a verbatim match for a Waze place name. It will route you correctly because the stop point for the area place is in the correct spot.

I would imagine the solution is to head over to Map Maker and move the Google pin to the place that your average end-user would be searching for, which would be the terminal. I can think of corner cases where someone would want to search for and be routed to other places in the complex, but I can't imagine those would outweigh the need for correct routing for Joe The Plumber to get to his flight on time.

Once you grab that Map Maker pin and drag it to the approximate spot of where the Waze stop point is at, both Google and Waze should be looking to the same spot to route you to and there should be no further discrepancies, as it won't matter which match it makes.
