Bridge redo I96 going west at 23 intersect bad directions

Post by geomba
The application is not giving good directions when heading west and routing off I96 to the service drive to avoid the bridge construction at 23. It is very easy to interpret the directions as going to the on ramp to 23 instead of staying on the service drive and getting back on I96.

I agree that the I-96/US-23 interchange need some updates. IMO, they should act just like the C/D lanes on I-94 near the Airport.

* WB old lanes should be set to a ramp with an initial segment name of "Exits 148B-A & 149: US-23 / Spencer Rd / Flint / Ann Arbor / Brighton". The remaining portion after the exit 148B should just be an unnamed ramp. None of the old lanes should be named I-96W.

* Similarly, the EB old lanes should be set to a ramp with an initial name of "Exits 148A-B: US-23 / Ann Arbor / Flint". The remaining portion after the exit 148A should be just an unnamed ramp. None of the old lanes should be named I-96E.

Two other minor issues with this intersection:

* EB exit lanes currently (and temporarily) branch off 100 feet past the Spencer Rd exit ramp not the entrance ramp which is a quarter mile further east. This is only temporary until the old lanes are rebuilt sometime next spring.

* Unlike the rest of the intersection where I-96 goes over US-23, there is one anomaly in that the WB C/D lanes go under US-23N. So the elevation at that one bridge should be flipped.

* I know there are CMs who disagree with him, but the whole thing would look better in the client if the bridges were Sketch-ized (ie Elevation is uplifted only where the actual bridges are). It currently renders on livemap as though the new lanes are one big flyover, which they are not. The new lanes are on the ground except where they bridge over US23 N, US23 S and Old 23.

The new bridges are open and the only traffic that should be using the old bridges / service drive are motorist who are exiting off I-96 to US 23

Are the bypass lanes used for any other purpose than exiting/entering? If not, I'm wondering why we didn't go the collector/distributor route to begin with.

Other than making Jane more verbose as she will call out every ramp split, Is there any other advantage/disadvantage to converting it to that setup? Will it make it easier to enforce BDP, so we don't have to resort to beta hacks to specify that the bypass route is not preferred?
