Beautifully put. In fact, that same "drop down to Minor for slow, narrow portions in towns" was exactly the problem with US-31 that sparked the last couple months' conversation on this very issue, and the proposal I'm working up (slowly, I admit).

davielde wrote:It looks like the Michigan NFC maps have been updated today to "v13". The urban/rural distinction is now clearer, but the colors changed, so be careful. Particularly with regard to the brown "minor arterial" versus grey local roads, I find it almost impossible to distinguish unless highly zoomed in. Green has now changed to minor collector instead of minor arterial. On a good note, the higher available resolution when zoomed in is a bonus.
That's irritating. I had been using the urban/urbanized area maps from the dropdown, rather than the county maps, because they didn't include local roads, so they were easier to read and didn't bog my system down so badly.

Looks like it, yep. The federal standards say "other freeway or expressway" for the "purple" class, but glancing at the MDOT maps, it appears they have chosen not to use this class for partially-limited-access "expressways" like M-53 between 27 and 34.

We'd been doing that sort of along the course of the conversation, or really, davielde was doing his area and I was filling in the blanks from there--but then finals season started, and the day after that was done my computer was stolen.. I think I finished Macomb and did all of the principal arterials and most of the other arterials in Wayne, but have been filling in the collectors and whichever arterials I may have missed in my first run-through. I know I did downtown (between 75, 375, and the Lodge), not sure exactly what else. I believe davielde's area is at least the southern half of Oakland and some of the Downriver communities.

Wayne is completed. All of my rights across the rest of the state are expiring. But I'll try to clean up what is left if Livingston and surrounding.

I'm plugging away at Muskegon Co NFC matchup and also upping editing ranks on mH and MH around there to 2 (the highest I can right now) because another editor recently undid some of my FC edits there.

lelehman has Barry Co matched up to NFC pretty well. BTW, that's where she and I "met". ;)
