This is an older suggestion, but I’d like to re-introduce it here. Here’s a link to the suggestion open for voting (even though it’s marked as not fitting the road map): https://waze.uservoice.com/forums/59225-map-editor-suggestions/suggestions/48224957-filter-gps-tracks-by-date
The other day I was tackling URs in my city. There were several over a large area indicating some road closures, but it was difficult to narrow it down. Somebody finally replied and I was attempting to figure out what was closed. I typically check the GPS Points layer just in case, but it’s rarely helpful. In this case it, was extremely helpful! I was able to see exactly which segments were closed, and had been closed long-term, because the stale GPS points had finally disappeared after months.
As you can see, this made the world of difference in detecting these closures (that had been there for months and us editors hadn’t been able to nail down due to lack of information, so there is history of adding some closures for the last 8 months, last attempted 4.5 months ago). However, we are rarely so lucky.
If we could filter the GPS Points layer by date, it would give us another powerful tool to diagnose URs with no clear description or no replies. Was this UR submitted because of an overnight closure and then opened up again? What about just over the weekend and we saw the UR on Tuesday? What if it’s long-term? Being able to select a date range or have a slider to “play” through the timeframe would allow us to answer these questions easily.
Most of the time I only turn on the GPS Points layer when adding new segments if there is no imagery, and I turn it on as a joke when checking for closures because up until this instance, I can’t recall it helping me once. Allowing us to filter by date/time and see when traffic drops off would make this one of the most useful layers currently available.
A potential other option would be to allow us to view segment traversals in a similar way, such as from X to Y dates, # crossed A->B and ## crossed B->A. However, that is not the point of this post. Just my musings.
