Long-term roadworks

There are long-term road works happening in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin as part of the Dún Laoghaire Central Active Travel Scheme.

They have just started around Bakers Corner/Glenageary Road/Deansgrange and and will go on for at least three months, during which time there will be lanes unavailable and a stop/go system in place from 10:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday. Can this be reflected on the map somehow? Having left-hand turn lanes closed is imapcting journey times.

We can mark roads as completely closed, but we can’t mark roads as having some (but not all) lanes closed, or as having a stop/go system in place.

However, if traffic levels increase on some roads because of the road works, then Waze should pick up on this automatically and adjust routing accordingly so that these roads are less favoured when choosing routes.

Hi, I get what you’re saying, but it’s been a few weeks now and the map is still showing that junction as blue/clear, when in reality it’s adding approx. 20 minutes as there’s such a long queue. It keeps bringing me through it thinking it’s clear when it the opposite.

I hear you. We don’t have the facility to mark a road as slower than usual or likely to have more traffic, nor can we mark individual lanes as closed — and Waze is supposed to learn that there’s more traffic than usual there.

If it’s still showing as blue/clear, this just means that it’s got normal levels of traffic for that road and for that time of day. It just goes red when the traffic is above normal. If it’s normal for that time of day to have traffic, then it it won’t go red: it should just go red if it’s way above normal.

It may be that there’s always traffic here and that the works aren’t slowing it down all that much. If this is still an issue, you could report traffic on that section. If enough people do this, then it should go red.

Even if it doesn’t go red, Waze should route around the increased traffic, but only if there’s a better route that is actually quicker. I’m familiar with this area too, and there aren’t that many roads in the area that would be quicker and that aren’t a lot longer — and a longer route will naturally take longer.
