I am interested in mapping, and already have done edits, but I am hitting a problem with level 3 roads which are locked and I cannot connect them to the new roads.

Do not worry segments locked at a level higher than yours, it is enough that you ask for the unlock inside the post “Unlock Requests” as you have done.
