This complete guide to Iceland is currently under development.

In this guide there are only specific information about Iceland.

If you need more info about editing in Waze, you can read the standard Wiki page: Waze Map Editor/Welcome

Getting Started

Hopefully you're reading this and want to edit the map, either because you've found a mistake or you want to add a new road. Either way, it is important that you follow the editing standards already set.

Currently Iceland is managed by Waze Staff with the hopes that the country will eventually transition to self-management. Waze is looking for dedicated editors in Iceland to make that happen.

Editing Best Practices

Freeways are fairly obvious and limited only to the Reykjavik area. Limited access divided highways only

Major highway - Limited strictly to Route 1 (Þjóðvegur (1)) that travels around the island.

Minor Highway - All routes that use a two number designation. Example: Landvegur (26)

Primary Street - Major thoroughfares in the cities and also three digit designated rural highways. Example: Sumarliðabæjarvegur (281)

Street- all other surface streets and roadways including F Roads (dirt 4x4 trails)

Use the following naming convention of using the proper name for the road/highway and then putting the numerical designation immediately afterward in parentheses. Example: Bíldudalsvegur (63). This applies to all roadways with a name and a number. Numerically designated roadways without a name (or unknown name) should display only the number. Example: (5029)

Kort útgáfa

Hvað Breyti Krefst frá þér

Allir ritstjórar ættu að þekkja með bestu kort útgáfa venjur, sem mælt er út á Íslandi þá og Main Wikis. Allir ritstjórar ættu að fara í umræðunum reglulega. Nýir eiginleikar og starfshættir verður oft að finna á vettvangi, eins og heilbrigður eins og aðstoð og ráðgjöf. Forum Einkaskilaboð eru einnig mikilvæg aðferð til samskipta milli ritstjóra. Samskipti (hvort sem í gegnum ráðstefnur, PM, samtöl ur eða online) ætti að fara fram í kurteis og virðingu hætti. Sem ritstjóri, þú ert einn af pínulitlum minnihluta Waze notendur og við höfum öll eru stór hluti af opinberri "andlit" í Waze. Því fleiri reyndur ritstjórar eyða a einhver fjöldi af áreynsla að reyna að hjálpa nýjum ritstjóra. Vinsamlegast sýna þeim virðingu að hlusta á ráð þeirra og reyna að læra af henni. Mikilvægast ... það er ekkert sem heitir heimsk spurning. Ef þú veist ekki eða ert ekki viss ... spyrja.

Map Editing

What Editing Requires From You

All editors should be familiar with the best map editing practices as laid out in the Iceland and Main Wikis. All editors should visit the forums regularly. New features & practices will often be found on the forums, as well as help and advice. Forum Private Messages are also an important method of communication between editors. Communication (whether through the forums, PMs, UR conversations or online) should be conducted in a polite and respectful manner. As an editor, you are one of a tiny minority of Waze users and we all constitute a large part of the public "face" of Waze. The more experienced editors spend a lot of effort attempting to help new editors. Please show them the respect of listening to their advice and trying to learn from it. Most importantly...there is no such thing as a dumb question. If you don't know or are unsure...ask.

Svæði Umsjónarkennari

Ritstjórar sem hafa sýnt stöðuga afrekaskrá nákvæmum breytingar kunna að gilda vera svæðisstjóri. Svæði Stjórnendur hafa fullt leyfi útgáfa á einstökum sviðum, jafnvel þótt þeir hafi ekki í raun ekið inn í þá. Í ljósi þess að dreifður frumu umfjöllun í Íslandi Area Management er nauðsynleg fyrir mörgum sviðum. Ef þú telur að þú hefur hæfileika og vígslu til að vera AM vinsamlegast gilda.

Area Manager

Editors who have shown a consistent track record of accurate edits may apply to be an Area Manager. Area Managers have full editing permissions in specific areas, even if they have not actually driven into them. Given the sparse cellular coverage in Iceland Area Management is a necessity for many areas. If you feel you have the skills and dedication to be an AM please apply.

WME LiveMap closures Shows road closures from Waze Live map in WME.

From August 2016, we added in Waze the official closure of iceland's roads.

WME Iceland Overlay It is a simple script based on MapRaid Layer script, it adds layers on the map with comment about the area:

Yellow layers - New roads: (year)

An area with roads not present on the satellite map of Waze, but certified from users that drived on these areas and or GPS tracks. If the year is major of the actual, the area is under investigation for developing of a new important infrastructure as bridges or tunnels.

Green layers - Area shifted: +xxx / +xxx

They are areas where the satellite maps is shifted from roads. To edit in these areas we need to use "WME Aerial Shifter" to shift the area (before we need to change the script because max values are +100 we need to change in +200)

Areas are provisional, the areas are simple rectangles and need more investigation but it is important to know these area needs more attention in the edit phase.
